Initial Build

While mostly this is about the release of version 0.1.0, it probably is more about how I got to this point.

The point of this project is partially for the “participate in the game jams” which I have to admit, isn’t exactly what I’ve been doing, and I don’t entirely know what I’m up to yet. But I have something that has at least figured out some direction to what I’m doing with the game that I’m working on, and it really feels really rather decent.

For some reason I really wanted to use the Harlowe story format for this game. I started with the game setup, and didn’t setup a story format, and I was, “sure that’s cool” but I kept getting errors with what I was doing, complaining about the story format…

And I saw that it wasn’t actually Harlowe that I was using initially, but well, something else, but I wasn’t entirely sure what it was. So… Hm… How do I best figure this out…

I went, “Oh, I think my workflow scripts have what I need to generate a Twine Archive, which can be imported into Twine…” And yes they do… But the script is older than how I have setup my workflow, so I really need to fix that up a bit…

I got the script fixed up, dumping new archives into a directory… And it looks good, I play with formats, find that SugarCube is the format that it is using, and start to dig about trying to get Harlowe to behave a bit more like SugarCube…

And I dug… I worked hard, I was getting “close,” but it’s still not really working how I would like… And I’m pretty sure that getting it to work the way which I’d like, probably is going to be more difficult than I would like to admit… I abandon Harlowe, and switch to SugarCube…

The interface looks good, right off the bat, the issues I was having with Harlowe just plain work (back and forward buttons aren’t hidden… They are greyed out though… but I spent so long trying to get those working…) But I’m getting some errors…

Yeah, that really is to be expected. It’s a different format, and the issue which said, “Harlowe is what I want to do” was part of the, “but it’s a different format” thing. SugarCube displayed my Markdown style italics… Well as a string between two asterisks, which was… Unsettling to say the least, at least initially, but hey if that’s the big problem then no problem…

Oh, look… My code is displaying directly, so it will need to be modified… OK, not sure what I need to do, time to do a search (been doing a good amount of that through the day anyway) to see how to properly. It took a bit of looking and I got it done… Not really that much looking at all.

The sidebar stuff which was my content wasn’t displaying. Well that would have been nice to have working, but too much to ask… But how much too much?

Really not much at all, I knew I’d need to change that, and dang if it isn’t way simpler, and no futzing with trying to get it to display nicely, once I throw the code up, which is way simpler, it just displays nicely.

I stripped all the CSS I had (well almost all the CSS) and I’m not yet sure if I’ve got CSS which I can modify, or not. I think I’ll probably have to handle it differently, but it’s probably again, no big deal.
